🎾 FHSU falls in MIAA opener to Northeastern State

HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State Tennis dropped its first conference match of the season to Northeastern State on Saturday (Mar. 27) at the FHSU Tennis Courts. The RiverHawks, ranked 10th in the region by the ITA, claimed all of the matches contested and won 7-0. FHSU is now 3-1 overall, while NSU moved to 5-4 overall and 1-0 in the MIAA.

The No. 1 team of Stefany Stemmer and Sydney McAdoo, as well as the No. 2 team of Grace Holgerson and Fiorella Mendez each won two games within their doubles sets. In singles action, Stemmer won the most games among Tiger players, taking four in each set with her opponent. McAdoo nearly forced a third set at the No. 3 position, but fell in second-set tiebreak. All singles matches were won in straight sets by the RiverHawks.

The Tigers return to action on Sunday (Mar. 28) against Central Oklahoma at 11 am. The Bronchos are ranked No. 5 in the nation and No. 1 in the region.
