
Douglas William Eibert, 92, died on Saturday, November 7, 2020, at his
home in Dighton. He was born on September 17, 1928, in Ness City to
Francis Blair & Jennie (Pettyjohn) Eibert. He married Donna Dee
Matthies on November 6, 1949, in Scott City.
Doug graduated from Ness City High School where he was an outstanding
athlete. He participated in all sports and held the school pole vault
record from 1945 to 1983. He attended Kansas State University where he
was a member of both the football and basketball teams. He was later
invited to the Chicago Cubs training camp for a try out. He worked on
his family farm in Ness City, then moved to Dighton where he worked for
Farmers Oil before beginning a 32-year career with Kansas-Nebraska
Natural Gas Company as a service technician.
He was a member of the
First Christian Church of Dighton where he served many years as a deacon
and also was a life member of the NRA. He enjoyed his collection of
rocks, arrowheads, and shark teeth; as well as hunting, fishing, and
being a coach wherever he was needed.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Donna Eibert; son, D. Doug
Eibert of Dighton; daughter, Deanne Graham of Garden City; three
grandchildren, Ike (Kayla) Eibert, Katerra (Michael) Rowan & Breven
(Maggie) Graham; and four great-grandchildren, Kasidee, Isabelle, Pyper
& Jackson Douglas. He was preceded in death by his parents and
brother, F. Blair Eibert, Jr.
Pastor Alana Chapman will be officiating the funeral service at the
First Christian Church in Dighton on Wednesday, November 11 at 10:30am.
Burial will be at the Dighton Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call from
noon to 8:00pm on Tuesday, November 10 at Boomhower Funeral Home in
Dighton.
