⚾ Monarchs split road doubleheader with Ellinwood

ELLINWOOD – The TMP-Marian Monarchs baseball team went on the road Friday night and split a doubleheader with the Ellinwood Eagles in a pair of games that were postponed from earlier this season.

Game 1: TMP 14, Ellinwood 11
The Monarchs scored in all but two innings of the first game and five players collected two hits in a 14-11 TMP victory.

The Monarchs broke onto the scoreboard early, scoring eight runs over the first three innings.

In the three-run first, TMP scored on back-to-back RBI singles from Carson Liles and Ty Schmeidler and an error.

After Ellinwood got two runs back in the bottom of the first, TMP scored three more runs in the top of the second, with all three runs coming on Ellinwood errors for a 6-2 TMP lead.

Leading 6-5, the Monarchs plated two more runs, both with two outs, in the top of the third inning.

They scored on an error and an Ian Nehls single, taking an 8-5 lead into the bottom of the third.

Ellinwood got a run back in the bottom of the third inning making it 8-6 TMP.

A Connor Breit sacrifice fly in the fifth made it 9-6 TMP and then the Monarchs offense came alive again in the six, scoring five runs.

They loaded the bases with one out before scoring on a wild pitch and an Adler Brown single making it 11-6 TMP.

Then with two outs in the inning Braxton Basgall tripled to center field clearing the bases, putting TMP up 14-6.

The Eagles answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning and another in the seventh as TMP held on for the 14-11 victory.

Carson Liles was awarded the win for TMP, he allowed five runs, two earned, in two innings of work. He walked three and struck out two.

Ian Nehls two-for-three with an RBI and three runs scored. Braxton Basgall finished two-for-three with RBI’s and scored twice.

Game 2: Ellinwood 10, TMP 5
After the Monarchs won a wild, offensive affair in game one, Ellinwood scored 10 runs in the first three innings on their way to a 10-5 win over TMP.

Ellinwood scored four runs in the first and three each in the second and third innings to lead 10-0 through three innings.

The Monarchs broke onto the scoreboard with a single run in the fourth, scoring on an RBI single by Connor Breit.

Ian Nehls added an RBI single in the fifth and three batters later Logan Baalman drove in a run with a single making it 10-3 Ellinwood.

The Monarchs scored two more runs in the top of the seventh on an Ellinwood error as the Eagles went on to pick up the 10-5 victory.

Austin Gilbert suffered the loss, he allowed seven runs, six earned in an inning and a third. He walked four and struck out one.

Connor Breit was two-for-four with an RBI and Carson Lilies finished two-for-three with a run scored.

TMP is 6-2 on the season. The will travel to Ellis on Tuesday.
