RUSSELL – The Hoxie boys and Norton girls won the Mid-Continent League Track and Field Championship Thursday at Shaffer Field. The Indian boys scored 108 points, 19 ahead of Plainville. Smith Center finished third with 80 points.
The Blue Jay girls scored 107 1/2 points which was 11 1/2 better than Ellis. TMP-Marian finished third with 86 1/2.
The Railer girls had five first place finishes. Evelyn Merriman led the way with wins in the 100 (13.2) and 200 (27.02). Isabella Eck won the high jump (5-2), Natalie North the discus (127.6) and Avery Boydston the 800 (2:28.34).
The Monarchs had four first place finishes led by Shalee Gottschalk who won the 100 hurdles (15.98) as well as the 300 hurdles (48.08). Ann Cappuccio had a personal best in the pole vault (9-0) and Macara Rohr recorded a personal best in the triple jump (35-10.25).
The Plainville boys had three first place finishes. Braylon Bittle in the discus (156-10), J.D. Dintino the 110 hurdles (16.93) and A.J, Brown had a personal best in the 300 hurdles (42.77).
Mason Younger of Ellis had a personal best and set a new school record and won the pole vault (13-9).
