🤼‍♂️ HHS boys qualify seven for state tournament, Meyers reginal runner-up

NEWTON - The Hays High boys qualified seven wrestlers to next week's 5A State Tournament after a seventh-place team finish at the Newton 5A Regional which wrapped up Saturday at Newton High School.

The Indians scored 126 1/2 points. Bishop Carroll won the team title with 215 points, Goddard finished second with 200 1/2, Andover was third with 175 1/2.

Dalton Meyers (26-5) was the regional runner-up at 175. After winning his first two matches by fall, Meyers defeated Arkansas City's Owen McAnulty with a 5-4 decision in the semifinals before losing to Andover's Logan Warkentine by fall in the finals.

The Indians had two wrestlers finish third. Jonny Rigler (27-9) at 190 and Tanner Geist (23-8) at 285. Jaxson Chartier (10-6) placed fourth at 215. Cyler Luck (25-11) qualified for state with a fifth place finish at 106. Grady Lind (20-12) was sixth at 132 and Roberto Macias (22-12) eighth at 150.

All seven will compete at the 5A State Tournament which is February 28 - March 1 at the Park City Arena in Park City.
