NWS: Chance of severe thunderstorms Monday evening

After dense fog and drizzle Monday morning, the National Weather Service is warning of possibly severe thunderstorms Monday night and into Tuesday morning.

Strong south winds will gust up to 45 mph throughout the afternoon Monday, with the possibility of storms arriving after 9 p.m. Concentrated east of U.S. 83, some storms are expected to produce up to quarter-sized hail. Wind gusts will spike up to 60 mph, the NWS predicted, bringing a slight chance of tornadoes.

Precipitation is only expected to amount to a tenth to a quarter inch of rain, although higher amounts are possible in the areas of thunderstorms.

It is expected to remain cold and blustery from Tuesday and into the weekend, with high temperatures in the mid-30s.
