
Jerry Lee Baalmann, 77, died peacefully Thursday, March 17, 2022, at
Logan County Manor. He was the son of Edward Gerhardt Baalmann and
Eleanor “Elenora” Amelia (Schlageck) Baalmann. Mr. Baalmann was the
oldest of six children and was born July 29, 1944. His formative years
were spent on the family farm northeast of Grinnell, KS, in rural
Sheridan County. He attended grade school in Angelus, KS, and high
school in Grinnell.
Mr. Baalmann was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 2773, and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Grinnell, Kansas.
As a young adult, Mr. Baalmann was in the National Guard Reserves, went
to area meetings in Colby, Kansas, and attended a four-month training
camp in Georgia/Alabama. After moving to Grinnell, with his mother, in
1985, he was occasionally hired as a farm laborer, for area farmers. Mr.
Baalmann and his mother continued to have a garden in town, as they did
on the farm.
Mr. Baalmann moved into Logan County Manor in July, 2017. He began
making a lot of rosaries, praying the rosary, as he made each one. He
also spent time coloring adult coloring pages and painting ceramics. Mr.
Baalmann loved reading area newspapers and enjoyed discussing history,
especially farm related, and current events.
Mr. Baalmann was predeceased by his parents, Ed (1972) and Eleanor
Baalmann (2004), and a brother, Ken Baalmann (2013). He is survived by
his brothers, Ron (Maria), Colby, KS, Mark (Gerry) and Joe (Lynn), both
in Grinnell, KS, and his sister, Audrey (Dennis) Bosley, Topeka, KS;
nephews, nieces, and great nephews and great nieces. His gentle spirit
will be missed by his family and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, March 25, 2022, at Immaculate Conception
Catholic Church, Grinnell, KS, from 5-7:00 p.m., with a Vigil and rosary
by the Knights of Columbus at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be at
10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 26, 2022, at the church with interment
following at St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery, Angelus. Memorials may be
