HANSTON – Douglas A. “Doug” Meier, 73, passed away May 17, 2023 at Hodgeman County Health Center, Jetmore, KS.

He was born July 18, 1949 in Hays, KS, the son of Milton Edward and Theresa M. Weber Meier. He moved to Hanston in October 2022 from Graham, WA.

Doug graduated from United States Military Academy at West Point, NY with an engineering degree and served the nation as an officer in the United States Army. After serving as an officer in the military, he was a project manager for IDEMIA, where he did forensic fingerprint identification.

He was of the Christian faith, head deacon at Church for All Nations, Tacoma, WA and currently attended the Faith Fellowship Church in Hanston. He was the vice president of Oil of Joy Ministries, an outreach mission to India, where one of his favorite pastimes was treating the orphans with ice cream. He enjoyed golfing, reading, carpentry and woodworking, building his own homes and fine furniture.

On June 12, 1971, he married Virginia J. Capece in Philadelphia, PA. She survives.

Other survivors include daughter Wendy (Mike) Halvorsen, Hanston; son Craig (Mandy) Meier, Puyallup, WA; two brothers, Howard (Jane) Meier, Great Bend, Steve (Carla) Meier, Hays; sister Sue (TR) May, Hays; six grandchildren, Nicole (Jamison) Leckenby, Michele (Jason) Zink, Michael Halvorsen Jr., Kristen (Evan) Doyle, Caleb Meier, Riley Meier; three great-grandchildren, Joseph Zink, Zachariah Zink and Timothy Zink.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 26, 2023 at Faith Fellowship Church, Hanston with Pastor Doug Ellison presiding. Inurnment will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 26, 2023 at Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery in Antonino, KS. with military graveside rites conducted by United States Army and Southwest Kansas Veterans Funeral Guard.
