
Haven Dee (Moore) Applegate, born August 19, 1932, in Meade, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at Ellis Good Samaritan Society surrounded by her loved ones.
Haven graduated from the University of Kansas with a bachelor’s degree in nursing, dedicating her life to caring for others both professionally and personally. She married the love of her life, Francis Applegate Jr., on June 4, 1954, and together they built a family rooted in love, service, and kindness.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Haven found her greatest joy in caring for her family and spending cherished time with her grandchildren. Her warmth and generosity touched everyone she met. She loved being outdoors in her garden, tending to her flowers, and found happiness in the simple pleasures of life; especially a good dessert. She also gave back to her community by volunteering with Meals on Wheels, demonstrating her lifelong commitment to helping others.
During her time at Ellis Good Samaritan, Haven received outstanding care from the compassionate and dedicated staff. In return, she kept everyone on their toes and smiling with her quick wit, sharp responses, and endless stories that made every day a little brighter.
Haven is survived by her son, Troy Applegate and wife Connie; grandchildren Kalee and Courtney Daily, Koby Daily and wife Brie, Alexandra and Ashley Applegate, Brooke Fox and husband Cooper, and Sadie Fox; and great grandchildren Theodore and Emmy Daily. She is also survived by her sister, Gail Moore-Bosserman.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Francis Applegate Jr.; her parents, Charity and Dwight Moore; her brother, Robert Moore; and her children, Darin Applegate, Kirsten Daily, and Noelle Fox.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Brant Rice officiating. Inurnment will follow in Fort Hays Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 9:30 am until service time at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested, in Haven’s memory, to The Good Samaritan Foundation.
