Maurice Dean Jeffries

Maurice Dean Jeffries, 86, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 22,  2021, at the St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. He was born on Jan. 19, 1935, in Modoc, the son of Forrest Franklin and Mabel Leoti Shearmire Jeffries.

Dean was a resident of Leoti from 1960 until 2012 when he moved to Scott City. In 2014 he moved to Garden City.  Dean was an AA member for 44 years.

He was the owner and operator of Jeffries Electric in Leoti until the late 1990’s when he went to work for Maple Creek Farms as project manager for seven years before he retired.

He was a member of the Jehovah’s Witness Congregation in Garden City.

On Aug. 12, 1954, he married Mona Rhea Burgess in Garden City. She passed away on Nov. 23, 2018, in Garden City.

Survivors include his two daughters - Cynthia and Kenneth Becker of Garden City, Stephanie and James Fontenot of Garden City; one son - N. James Jeffries of Leoti; one brother - Robert and Patricia Jeffries of Modoc; four grandchildren - Jennifer and Mark Doll of Garden City, Tori Jeffries of Healy, Jordan Becker of Norman, Okla.; Logan Fontenot of Garden City; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four brothers, two grandsons - Trax Fontenot, Casey Becker, one great -grandson - Garrett Doll.

Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022, at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City. The funeral service will be live-streamed at www.priceandsons.com.

A Jehovah’s Witness Zoom service will be held at a later date.

There will be no calling times.
