Fort Hays State University students showcased their academic talents at the Kansas Section Meeting of the Mathematical Association of America in Emporia on March 29. The six students earned top honors and even dominated in a non-academic disc golf competition.
The team of Sixie Chen, Cixi, China; Kiel Harrison, Topeka; and Anthony Arial, Hays, placed second out of eleven teams in the mathematics problem-solving competition. The team of Eric Moon, Phillipsburg; Kaleb Brunhoeber, Fort Leavenworth; and Seoyeon Kim, Seoul, South Korea, tied for fifth place.
The competition included teams from the University of Kansas, Kansas State University, Wichita, Emporia, Pittsburg, and Benedictine.
FHSU students who gave presentations on their research were Chen, Harrison, and Moon.
Also, in a fun, non-academic competition at the conference, Harrison placed first, Arial placed second, and Moonplaced third in the disc golf contest.
