Posted Jan 29, 2021 2:02 PM

Jerald Lee “Jerry” Sterling passed away on January 27, 2021, at the Rooks County Health Center in Hays, KS, at the age of 71. He was born on July 8, 1949, to Gabriel and Ruth (Hoyle) Sterling in Columbus, OH. Jerry married Patricia Rogers on May 15, 1969, in Wichita, KS. They were blessed with two children: Chad and Lori.

Jerry grew up in Ohio and graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Columbus. He served in the United States Airforce during Vietnam. Jerry and Patty owned and operated 183 Lanes in Stockton for 25 plus years up until retiring in 2014. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and the V.F.W.

Jerry enjoyed racing, refurbishing old classic cars, watching car auctions, bowling, and coin collecting. He loved spending time with his granddaughters. He was a hardworking and caring man. While he strived for perfection in all that he did, he knew how to have fun and enjoy life along the way. He will be greatly missed, but his memory will serve as an inspiration to those who knew him… always do what you love, and always love what you do.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Patricia of the home in Stockton; son, Chad Sterling and wife Nancy of Stockton, KS; daughter, Lori Koester and husband John of Claflin, KS; brothers, Gabe Sterling and wife Debbie of Granbury, TX, Joe Sterling of Columbus, OH, Steve Sterling and wife Lisa of Galloway, OH, and Bill Sterling and wife Lori of Columbus, OH; five grandchildren, Peyton (Colton) Zink, Lexie Broeker, and Jolee and Hadlee Sterling; and one great-grandchild on the way.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gabriel and Ruth Sterling, and grandchild Christian L. Sterling.

There will be a Visitation on Sunday, January 31, 2021, 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM with the family receiving friends 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the funeral home in Stockton. Private family services will be held at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to Jerald Sterling Memorial Fund (to be designated at a later date by the family to benefit the community of Stockton) and may be sent in care of Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 N. 1st, Stockton, KS 67669.
