Walter C. Underwood, 92, passed away November 23, 2021, at Brookdale Senior Living in Great Bend. He was born on June 11, 1929, to Kenneth & Edna (Russell) Underwood. He married Theoda Martin March 29, 1951, at Raton, New Mexico.
Coming to Great Bend from Dodge City in 1974, Walter was the Plant Superintendent of Western P&L, Sunflower Electric, Wheatland Electric and Aquila, having retired in 1991. He was a member of First Baptist Church and loved studying the bible. He enjoyed woodworking and restoring antique John Deere tractors.
Survivors include, his wife Theoda Underwood of the home; two sons, Mark Underwood and wife Sherri of Sharon, Kan., and Pat Underwood and wife Kerry of Blanchard, Okla.; two daughters, Debbie Chapman and husband Michael of Lee's Summit, Mo., and Denise Scott and husband Bryan of Great Bend; sixteen grandchildren; and thirty-six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Charles Underwood.
Visitation will be held from Noon to 8:00 p.m., Monday, November 29, 2021 at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home with Reverend Leroy Keith presiding. Interment will be in the Forest Park Cemetery in Anthony at 3:00 p.m., with Military Rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
Memorials have been designated to First Baptist Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
