🥎 HHS opens season with a pair of wins in Abilene

ABILENE, Kan. - The Hays High softball team opened their season with a pair of wins over Abilene Thursday. The Indians scored six in the top of the first and won the opener 13-4. They had to rally to take the second game 10-6.

Aubree Thomas threw two complete games and picked up the win in the circle for both as the Indians open their season 2-0.

HHS plays at Dodge City Tuesday.

Game 1: Hays 13, Abilene 4
Madyson Sennett had three hits and Dezerea Schmidt drove in three runs. Morgen Berry, Lakyn Zimmerman, Elle Dreiling and Reagan Winter all drove in two runs.

Aubree Thomas picked up the complete game victory. She allowed four runs (two earned) on seven hits with eight strikeouts and no walks.

Game 2: Hays 10, Abilene 6
The Indians trailed 6-4 after five innings but rallied with five runs in the sixth inning and one in the seventh.

Dezerea Schmidt doubled to right scored Raegan Winter and Ashlyn Zimmer to toe the game with one out in the sixth. Morgen Berry then followed with a single to center to drive in Schmidt. Madyson Sennett capped off the inning with a two-out triple to center which scored Berry.

Schmidt had two hits and drove in three. Berry had three hits and drove in two. Sennett also finished with two RBIs.

Thomas went the distance for the win allowing six runs (three earned) on seven hits with 10 strikeouts and two walks.
