A red flag warning has been issued for Ellis County from 1 through 8 p.m. Thursday.

Other affected counties include&nbsp;Trego, Scott, Lane, Ness, Rush, Hamilton, Kearny, Finney, Hodgeman, Pawnee, Stafford, Stanton, Grant, Haskell-Gray, Ford, Edwards, Kiowa, Pratt, Morton, Stevens, Seward, Meade, Clark, Comanche and Barber.

Winds are forecast to be out of the southwest at 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Humidity is forecast to be as low as 12%.

Any fire that develops will catch and spread  quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended, according to the National Weather Service.

The high in Hays on Thursday is forecast at 73 degrees.
