COLBY – The TMP-Marian baseball team picked up a pair of wins over Colby Tuesday. They score five in the top of the sixth and hold on to win the opener 14-11. They scored 16 runs in the fourth inning in a 19-3 run-rule win in game two.
The Monarchs are now 3-1 on the season. They host Holcomb in a doubleheader Thursday.
Game 1: TMP-Marian
14, Colby 11
The Monarchs scored three runs in the first, three in the second and two in the
third and led 8-6 after three. After scoring a run in the fifth they put five
on the board in the top of the sixth for a 14-6 lead.
The Eagles answered with four in the bottom of the sixth and one in the seventh.
Caden Dinkel, Ian Nehls, Carson Liles, Adler Brown and Braxton Basgall all had two hits. Basgall drove in four runs and had one the Monarchs three triples along with Brown and Dinkel.
Liles was credited with the win after allowing five runs (two earned) on three hits. Ty Schmeidler pitched two scoreless innings of relief with five strikeouts and five walks. Nehls closed it out allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits over the final three innings.
Game 2: TMP-Marian
19, Colby 3 (4 innings)
The Monarchs scored 16 runs in the fourth inning to break a 3-3 tie. TMP had nine
hits in the inning. Ty Schmeidler had a three-run homer, Braxton Basgall added
a two-run triple and Logan Baalman had a run-scoring triple. They also took advantage
of three Colby errors and two hit batters.
Baalman had three of the Monarchs 15 hits and drove in two runs. Schmeidler homered and drove in five. Kendall Walker doubled and drove in three, Ian Nehls and Braxton Basgall also drove in two runs.
Caden Dinkel allowed three runs on four hits with four strikeouts and a walk and picked up the win. Baalman pitched the final inning and struck out two.
