ATLANTA - Fort Hays State's Katie Wagner was listed on the 2024 WBCA NCAA Division II Coaches' All-America list as an honorable mention selection, announced Thursday. Wagner was one of 40 players in Division II to earn All-America honors from the Coaches Association this season.
Wagner adds All-America status to an already impressive 2023-24 résumé that includes MIAA Player of the Year honors, first team All-MIAA accolades, a spot on the MIAA All-Defensive Team, first team D2CCA All-Central Region status, MIAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors and two recognitions as MIAA Player of the Week.
Wagner was an unstoppable force on the floor this season for the Tigers, with the junior averaging 17.2 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.2 steals per game. She ranked third in the MIAA in scoring, third in rebounds and second in steals. Wagner recorded 14 double-doubles in 33 games, second-most in the MIAA and 17th-most in all Division II. She led the MIAA and ranked 17th in DII with 210 field goals made while also leading the league and ranking 16th nationally with 467 field goal attempts.
The Maize, Kan. native scored in double figures 30 times this season, including 12 games with at least 20 points scored and two games with 30 or more points. She was one of just two players in the MIAA with multiple 30-point games this season. Wagner recorded four-consecutive double-doubles in the postseason, becoming the first Tiger with at least four double-doubles in a row since 2019.
Wagner finished the season with 569 points, fifth-most in a single season in program history, while ranking ninth with 287 rebounds and ninth in steals with 72. She now has 1,732 points in her career, fourth-most in program history, while ranking second in school history with 965 career rebounds and ninth with 183 career steals.
She helped the Tigers to 25 wins on the year, tied for the sixth-most in a season in school history. The Tigers surpassed 20 wins for the 13th-consecutive season, extending the longest streak in Division II.
Wagner is the sixth player in program history to earn All-America status and the fourth to do so during the NCAA DII era. She is the first Tiger All-American since Jaden Hobbs earned WBCA honorable mention All-America status in 2020-21.Wagner is one of two MIAA players to earn the distinction this season, joined by Central Missouri's Brooke Littrell on the honorable mention list.
