Howard Ralph Sloan

Howard Ralph Sloan, age 72, of Hays, Kansas, passed away March 22, 2021, at Hays Medical Center in Hays.

Howard was born September 16, 1948, in Norton, Kansas, to Arthur and Anna (Boyd) Sloan. Howard graduated from Norton High School. After graduation Howard served a mission for 30 months in Samoa. On June 9, 1972, he was sealed for time and all Eternity to Sharyn D. VanDeWege in the Logan LDS Temple in Logan, Utah. Sharyn preceded him in death on December 3, 2003. On July 10, 2004, he married Marlene (Pfannenstiel) Dinges celebrating 17 years of wonderful marriage.

Howard was a long-time CPA operating his own business Howard Sloan CPA. He also served as an accountant for Allied Inc, APAC, and Da Mar Resources. In addition, he taught Accounting and Computing for many years at Fort Hays State University which rendered him much satisfaction. Howard was a man of faith and was a very active member at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was instrumental in bringing the Senior Companion Program to Hays and Ellis County. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, Marlene, classic movies especially with John Wayne, traveling with grandchildren to watch their sporting events, and most importantly knowing his family and loved ones are succeeding and happy in life.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene of Hays; three sons, Isaac (Tracey) Sloan of West Jordan, Utah, Jacob (Andrea) Sloan of Beloit, Kansas, and Joseph (Kristen) Sloan of Hays; two stepdaughters, Tashia (Robert) Becker of Hays and Tracy Mai of Hays; a sister, Iris Kluber of Paola; 8 grandchildren and 4 step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Arthur “Art” Sloan; a sister, Dorothy Holmes; a son, Abraham Sloan; a stepson, Ethan Mai, and his mother-in-law, Mabel Gross and a step granddaughter, Morgan Mai.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, March 27, 2021, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 2901 Canal Blvd. Hays, KS 67601. Conducting services will be brother Kendall Elliott. Burial will be 3:00 PM Saturday at the Long Island Cemetery in Long Island, Kansas.

Visitation will be Friday 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the church.
