Vernon Kraus Jr.

Vernon Kraus Jr., 76, died November 12, 2020, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.  He was born August 14, 1944, in Kingman, to Vernon Joseph and Helen Maxine (Cole) Kraus.

Vernon graduated from Pretty Prairie High School in 1962, and Fort Hays State University in 1967.  He was the Industrial Arts teacher at Pretty Prairie High School for 32 years, and also loved farming.  Vernon was a member of the Pretty Prairie Booster Club.  He belonged to the New Jerusalem Church (Swedenborgian), in Pretty Prairie. 

On August 20, 1965, he married Linda Sue Smies, in Courtland, KS.  They shared 55 years of marriage.

Vernon is survived by:  wife, Linda of Pretty Prairie; children, Rick Kraus (Stephanie) of Hutchinson, Karen Perry (Jason) of Pretty Prairie; sister, Leta Royer (Bill) of Haven; grandchildren, Brody Kraus (Megan) of Hutchinson, Adam Hilbert (Katy) of Lenexa, McKinna Wiley (Clay) of Wellington, Brooke Williams (Wyatt) of Mulvane, Weston Kraus of Hutchinson, Ethan and Noah Perry of Pretty Prairie; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter, Paula Hilbert.

Cremation has taken place.  Per Vernon’s wishes, there will only be a private service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Center for Transplantation at The University of Kansas Health System, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS  67501.
