HAYS – The Hays Eagles 17U baseball team picked up a doubleheader sweep of the Salina Eagles Tuesday at the Hays High Field. Hays scored six in the second and third innings for a 13-2, four inning run-rule win in game one. They scored four in the third inning and five in the fourth and won the second game 10-3 in five innings.
The Hays Eagles (2-2) pounded out 15 this in the opener. Gage Porter, Carson Spray, Blake Schmidt and Wyatt Waddell all had two hits apiece. Spray and Derek Riggs both drove in three runs with Schmidt adding two RBIs.
Riggs gave up one earned run on six hits with six strikeouts and three walks in the four inning complete game victory.
Bradyn Dreher had three hits and drove in two runs to lead the Eagles eight-hit attack in the second game.
Ben Pfeifer allowed two earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and three walks over four innings for the win. Blake Schmidt struck out all three batters he faced to close out the game.
The Junior Eagles are in Emporia for a tournament starting Friday.
