TOPEKA - Hays High sophomore Izabel Schmidt placed fourth in both the 50 and 100 Yard Freestyle at the 5-1A State Swimming and Diving Championships over the weekend in Topeka. The top four finish also places her on the All-State swim team.
In the 50 Yard Freestyle, Schmidt had a preliminary time of 24.51 then finished with a time of 24.35 in the finals race. Hillsboro’s Lauryn Voght won the race with a time of 23.92.
Schmidt qualified for the finals in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 53.47. She than swam 53.21 in the finals race. Presley Baber of Blue Valley Southwest won with a time of 52.31.
