
Joseph Dean Arwine, 81, died on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at his home in
Cimarron. He was born on September 6, 1939, at Southwest City, Missouri
the son of James Martin & Helen Pauline (Lancaster) Arwine. He
married Rea June Bourne on July 20, 1962, at Albuquerque, New Mexico.
She died on June 18, 2001. He later married Roberta Swaney McDowell on
December 24, 2004 at Cimarron.
Joe attended Garden City schools and joined the United States Army right
out of high school. He served from 1957 until 1960 mainly stationed at
Hornsby Missile Base in Washington. After his discharge he returned
to Garden City and worked at several places before beginning g a 36 year
career as a Salesman for Berry Tractor. After retiring he moved to
Cimarron where he was known as the “lawn mower man” for fixing mowers
and other small engines. Joe was a witty, new no strangers type of
person who loved to talk about cars. He was a 60 year member of Harry H.
Renick American Legion Post # 9 and John J. Haskell VFW Post # 2279.
He enjoyed racing cars in his younger years and recently fishing,
boating, camping, traveling and the daily cleaning of his vehicles.
He is survived by his Wife- Roberta Arwine, 2 Sons- Joseph D. Arwine II
of Waynesville North Carolina and Robert R. Arwine of Garden City, 2
Daughters- Machelle Lee Silk of Bella Vista, Arkansas and Deanna Sue
Reidy of Kearney, Nebraska, Brother- James Arwine of Garden City, 3
Sisters- Janis Mastin of Garden City, Jowilla Couch of Scott City and
Joyce Triebold of Woodland Park, Colorado, 4 Step-Children- Jerry
Meredith of Stafford, Robin Lundeen of Wamego, Jim McDowell and Dennis
McDowell both of Fowler, 8 Grandchildren, 8 Great-Grandchildren, 13 Step
Grandchildren and 10 Step Great-Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, First Wife, Twin Brother- Jack Lee Arwine and Granddaughter- Monica Burns.
Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM Monday at First Southern Baptist
Church in Garden City with Rev Randy Caddell and Rev John Harms
officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in Garden City with
military honors by Kansas Army National Guard Honor Guard and American
Legion District 8 Honor Guard.
