🏀 TMP boys advance to sub-state semifinals with win over Goodland

HAYS – The TMP-Marian Monarchs use a pair of big runs and have three score in double-figures on their way to a 71-39 win over Goodland Monday at Al Billinger Fieldhouse in Hays to advance to the second-round of the 3A Goodland sub-state.

Goodland took a 2-0 lead to open the game but TMP (17-4) answered with a quick 8-0 run capped off by a Bryce Seib 3-pointer.

After Goodland (7-14) got back within one at 8-7 TMP finished the quarter and opened the second on an 11-0 run to go up by double-digits at 19-7.

Jace Wentling scored six of his 11 points in the second quarter helping TMP build a 30-17 halftime lead.

TMP’s Kenton Ginther hit three third quarter 3-point field goals and Dylan Werth scored six of his game-high 20 points as the Monarchs outscored Goodland 19-5 in the third quarter.

Five quick points by Gavin Unrein early in the fourth quarter put TMP up 62-32 and with the running clock to close out the game TMP went on to the 71-39 victory.

Dylan Werth led TMP with 20 points, his second straight 20-point performance. Gavin Unrein added 16 points and Jace Wentling finished with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Goodland’s Brady Brumbaugh scored a career-high 10 points in the loss.

TMP will take on Scott City in the sub-state semifinals in Goodland after the Beavers upset Russell Monday 49-39.

The bottom side of the bracket saw Norton beat Colby 67-46 and Phillipsburg got passed Hoisington 52-41.
