HESSTON - The Hays High girls’ golf team sits in third place after day one of the 5A state tournament at the Hesston Golf Course. The Indians shot a 342 which has them 24 strokes behind first place Kapaun Mt. Carmel and 11 back of Maize who they beat in the Salina reginal last week.
Junior Abbie Norris is in ninth place after an opening round 81. Sophomore Jaycee Oakley sits in 13th with an 84 and senior Katie Dinkel is 19th after an 87.
TMP-Marian shot a 409 and are in 10th place at 3-2-1A at Carey Park in Hutchinson but does not advance to day two.
Ashley Hipp and Mykayla Romme do advance. Hit shot an 86 which has her tied for fifth. Romme fired a 100. Plainville’s Emily Stamper also advanced. She’s tied for 25th after a 95. Colby junior Anna Starbuck sits in third place with an 82, 13 shots off the lead.
