Glenn Virgil Jacobs, 76, of Lyndon, Kansas, unexpectedly passed away at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas, on August 26, 2026.
He was born in Hays, Kansas, on May 2, 1950, to Virgil and Georgine (Kreutzer) Jacobs.
Growing up, Glenn loved playing baseball and helping his dad on the farm. At the age of 12, he began traveling with his father and, for many years, worked on their harvest crew, cutting wheat from Texas to South Dakota.
Glenn enjoyed spending his free time fishing and hunting with his best friend, Stan Meier. When he wasn’t chosen for the glee club, he taught himself to sing by listening to records over and over for hours. By adulthood, he had developed a rich baritone voice and was often asked to sing at church functions.
Glenn graduated from Saint Joseph’s Military Academy in 1968. After high school, he continued working on the harvest crew and also worked as a roughneck, saving enough money to purchase his beloved red and black 1970 Chevelle SS.
He attended Fort Hays State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology in 1977. It was there that he met his future wife, Luanne Heron. Glenn accepted Christ and was baptized at New Life Christian Center. He and Luanne were married at the same church on August 15, 1981.
The couple later purchased land and built a home south of Munjor, Kansas. They eventually welcomed two children, Jessica, born in 1984, and Trevor, born in 1987.
After college, Glenn worked for the Fish and Game Commission. He later owned and operated Glenn’s Oil Treating for several years.
In 1988, Glenn decided to make a big change in his life. He was wrestling with his spirit and felt a calling to help people. He went to the admissions office of a nursing school and asked if there was even such a thing as a male nurse. The doors opened wide, and he never looked back. This was where Glenn truly found his calling.
Glenn returned to Fort Hays State University and earned his Bachelor of Science in nursing. The family then moved to Oklahoma, where he worked in the intensive care unit at Muskogee Regional Medical Center. After only a few months, he was honored as Nurse of the Quarter.
Kansas was calling him back, so in 1995, the family moved to Lyndon, Kansas. Glenn’s only criteria for the move was that they be near a lake, as they had just purchased a Bayliner boat. He told Luanne, “You find a teaching job, and I can get a job anywhere.”
Glenn still had a yearning to work the soil, so they purchased ground west of Lyndon, where he could grow beans and wheat.
He worked as the MDS coordinator at Osage Manor and later finished his career at East Central Kansas Area on Aging as a case manager, serving several area counties.
Glenn’s free time was spent fishing, boating, birding and simply watching nature. His days of hunting eventually came to an end when he decided that enjoying wildlife through binoculars was much better than through a scope.
Glenn is survived by his loving wife, Luanne; his son, Trevor; his sister, Gail Haselhorst (Irvin); his nephew, Loren Haselhorst (Connie); his nephew, Keith Heron; his great-nephew, Austin Haselhorst (Adrianna); and his great-nieces, Willow and Brynlee Haselhorst.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jessica, in 1984; his father, Virgil Jacobs; and his mother, Georgine Jacobs.
A visitation will be held at Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be at St. Francis Cemetery in Munjor, Kansas.
