🤼HHS Zimmerman finishes second at state

PARK CITY – Hays High junior Sarah Zimmerman earned a second-place finish at 109 pounds Thursday at the 5-6A state wrestling championship tournament in Park City.

After pinning her way to the championship, and a 3-0 record Wednesday, Zimmerman lost to Larissa Garcia from Wichita North by a third-period fall.

Zimmerman beat Garcia for the regional championship earlier this month. She finished 29-5.

At 143 pounds Lexi Burton bounced all the way back from losing here first match of the day on Wednesday to finish sixth.

She won three consolation matches by fall before losing in the in the consolation semifinals and the fifth place match. She finishes the season 22-16.

Both Addison Otte at 120 pounds and Katie Gutierrez at 132 pounds lost in the consolation quarterfinals Thursday.

Otte finished the tournament 2-2 and 18-15 on the season.

Gutierrez also finished 2-2 and was 18-13 to finish the season.

Hays collected 71 team points and finished fifth.

At the 4-1A state tournament in Salina TMP’s Claudine Stein finished 1-2 for the tournament.

She won her first match on Wednesday but lost in the championship quarterfinals and again in the consolation wrestlebacks on Thursday. She finished the year 20-19.
