Half inch of rain falls in Hays; Ellis County still in exceptional drought

Hays received .56 inches of rain overnight, according to the K-State Ag  Research Center.

Hays is still behind in rainfall for June and the year. Hays averages 3.46 inches of rain for June but has only received 2.97 inches this month.

It averages 11.27 inches of precipitation by the end of June. Hays has received 9.18 inches year to date, according to the ag research center.

The Kansas Drought Monitor map as released Thursday still shows parts of Ellis County in exceptional drought.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 5 p.m. in Hays with chances of showers and thunderstorms increasing overnight to 80 percent before 8 a.m. 

The forecast is for clearing skies on Saturday and Sunday with a high of 80 Saturday and 91 Sunday.
