šŸƒ HHS girls' fourth, boys ninth at Salina Invite

SALINA ā€“ The Hays High girlsā€™ cross country team finished fourth and the boys ninth at the Salina Cross Country Invitational Saturday morning.

Maize South won the girlsā€™ title, scoring 25 points. Dodge City was second with 74, Shawnee Mission North third with 91 and the Indians fourth also with 91.

Maize South had the top three runners in the girlsā€™ race led by senior Alexa Rios who finished first with a time of 18:47).

Sophomore Amelia Jaeger led three medalists for the HHS girls with an 11th place finish (20:20). Freshman Arely Maldonado placed 14th (20:38) and freshman Brenlynn Albers 17th (20:50). Sophomore Jaycine Watson did not medal but placed 22nd (21:12) and freshman Mika Zimmerman 27th (21:34).

Maize South was also the boys winner, scoring 58 points. Shawnee Mission North finished second with 80 points.

Shawnee Mission Northā€™s Trevor Maxville won the boys race (16:16), 11 seconds ahead of Maize Southā€™s Vaughn Decker who finished second.

Freshman Ty Demsey led the Hays High boys team with a 36th place finish (18:29). Freshman Lane Dewald was 44th (18:50), junior Landon Viegra 45th (18:53), sophomore Daimon Lang 50th (19:08) and senior Zachary Chance 61st (20:07).

The Indians run at the Western Athletic Conference meet in Liberal Thursday.
