
Edith A. (Sula) Murphy passed away Monday, April 26, 2021, at the Valley
View Hospital in Glenwood Springs, Colorado at the age of 95. She was
born to Anton and Alice (Mares) Sula on October 15, 1925, in Wilson,
Kansas. She was united in marriage to Paul Murphy on May 15, 1960, in San
Diego, California. They were blessed with a daughter, Maureen. Paul
passed away in 2007.
Edith grew up in Wilson where she attended Wilson High School and
graduated with the class of 1943. Following her graduation, she set off
for California where she furthered her education at San Diego State and
earned her bachelor’s degree in Education. She taught at San Diego
schools until her retirement in 1961. Edith was passionate about her
Czech heritage and was a lifetime member of the Opera House and Kansas
Sokols. She belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star and was a Past
Worthy Matron. Edith enjoyed spending time with her family and reading.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Alice Sula and brother Tony (Evelyn) Sula.
Edith is survived by her daughter, Maureen (Bobby) Henderson of
Eagle, CO; nephew, Brett Sula of Salina, KS; and two granddaughters,
Shannon Henderson (Matthew Lehr) and Ashlyn Henderson.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at
Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home in Wilson starting at 10:30 AM. Visitation
will be on Monday at the funeral home from 2PM until 7PM.
