Margaret Ann “Peggy” Whittington, 90, Hays, died Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at Park West Villa in Wichita.

She was born July 31, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan to Urban and Marie (Delargey) Moffatt.  In 1953, she entered the religious order of Servants of Mary and taught in elementary and secondary schools in Omaha, Sioux City, and Upstate New York.  She received a Master of Music degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1972.  She left the community in 1977 and moved to Hays where she was employed as Director of Music and Liturgy at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church until her retirement in 2003.

On April 15, 1983, she was united in marriage to Joseph “Dick” Whittington in Hays.  He preceded her in death on May 7, 2001.  Peggy was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

Survivors include five stepsons, Jeffrey Whittington of San Francisco, CA, Christopher Whittington of Wichita, Edward Whittington of Hays, Lee Whittington and wife Jana of Westminster, CA, and Stuart Whittington of Denver, CO, one stepdaughter, Sarah Whittington-Mason of Denver, CO, and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dick, and her brother Urban Moffatt, Jr.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Friday, March 20, 2026 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Nick Parker officiating.  Inurnment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 9:00 am until service time on Friday at the church.  In Peggy’s memory, an act of kindness for someone in need is suggested or a donation to a charity of choice.  Services are in the care of Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, and condolences and memories of Peggy may be shared with her family at www.haysmemorial.com
