๐Ÿ€ Hays girls finish third in Colby Orange & Black Classic

The Hays High girls wrapped up their appearance at the Colby Orange and Black Classic with a game against Colby for third place Saturday afternoon

Hays 45 - Colby 30

Hays led 6-2 and 8-5 in the first quarter before Colby took the lead on a 9-0 run that lasted into the second quarter. The Eagles scored on the opening possession of the quarter for a 14-8 lead but didn't score for the remainder of the half. 

Hays used the time to go on a 14-0 run that was capped by a Carly Lang three point play with eight second remaining for halftime and a 22-14 lead at the break.

Highlights

Colby was able to pull the game to a four point difference at 22-18 early in the third quarter but was never got any closer. Hays was able to take their first double digit lead on a 9-0 run and led 31-21 after three quarters.

Hays led by double figures for nearly the entire fourth quarter and made seven of their final eight free throws for a 45-30 victory.

Carly Lang scored a career high 21. It is the third straight game the junior established a career mark after knocking 15 in the semifinals and grabbed 11 rebounds in the first round.

Hays improves to 7-5 on the year and is off until Friday when they travel to state ranked Salina Central. Colby falls to 5-6 and was led by Brooklyn Jones 18 points.

Jersey Johnson was named to the All-Academic Team. Carly Lang and Molly Martin made the All-Tournament team.
