⛳ FHSU's Scheck named "A Game" Scholar-Athlete for the 2026 MIAA Men's Golf Championship

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Fort Hays State senior Cooper Scheck has been named the Athletic Solutions "A Game" Scholar-Athlete of the 2026 MIAA Men's Golf Championship, announced Monday by the conference office.

Now in its fourth year of existence, the Athletic Solutions "A Game" Scholar-Athlete Award acknowledges the overall excellence of a student-athlete by recognizing one individual who has contributed to their team's success, while also achieving the highest academic standard among peers. The student-athlete honored with the "A Game" Scholar-Athlete Award must be a member of a qualifying team and have a minimum of two terms completed at the institution.

A native of Dodge City, Kan., Scheck continues to maintain a perfect 4.00 GPA through seven semesters of coursework, completing 129 credit hours overall and 76 at Fort Hays State. He is a health an human performance major emphasizing in sport and exercise therapy.

He presented a research project that studied the anatomical positions of the golf swing and best practices to prevent injuries at the 2025 KAHPERD Convention and will present a biomechanical study of the golf swing and how to improve body positioning to increase ball speed at the upcoming SACAD conference. Scheck is currently the vice president of the Pre-Professional Healthcare Club and is an intern for the Neuromuscular Wellness Center.

Scheck has earned the MIAA Scholar-Athlete Award, the MIAA Academic Excellence Award and been listed on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll each of the last two seasons. He was a CSC Academic All-American as a junior in 2024-25 in addition to earning GCAA Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar honors that same season.

On the course Scheck has posted a stroke average of 71.7 across 27 rounds of competition this season, including 15 rounds at-or-under par. He ranks inside the top 100 in Division II in the latest Clippd/Scoreboard rankings and sits in 10th in the MIAA designated event point standings heading into the conference championships. He won one event, finished tied for first in another and has placed inside the top 10 four times this season.

Scheck is the fifth Tiger to receive the "A Game" award since its inception in 2022 and is the first male student-athlete to do so at FHSU.
