SHERMAN COUNTY—A suspect is under investigation and in custody in northwest Kansas for alleged human smuggling.
Just before 2:30p.m. August 11, a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper stopped a 2017 Toyota Sienna carrying six occupants on Interstate 70 in Sherman County for an alleged traffic violation, according to Trooper Tod Hileman.
The Trooper took the driver identified as 47-year-old Diego Lopez into custody and transported him to the Sherman County Jail on requested charges of human smuggling. The remaining occupants were transferred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The incident remains under investigation.
