⚾ FHSU baseball falls in opener at Northwest

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Fort Hays State baseball team dropped Saturday's series opener at Northwest Missouri State, 6-1.

The Tigers had baserunners in four different innings, with the one run coming in the fourth when Ed Scott reached on a one-out single. The center fielder then moved up 90 feet on a wild pitch before coming in to score on an RBI single back up the middle off the bat of Brady Kreutzer.

Tiger starter Zach Berg scattered nine hits across 5.2 innings of work, allowing just two runs over the first five innings before surrendering two more in the sixth. He struck out one batter and did not issue a walk all afternoon. Jacob Douglas tossed the next 1.1 innings, giving up two runs on three hits. Dylan Hamilton tossed a scoreless inning of relief, giving up no hits and one walk.

Jenner Kehe collected two hits, with the final Tiger base knock coming off the bat of Grant Schmidt.

Game two between the Tigers and Bearcats is slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch on Sunday.
