⚽Women's Soccer Heads to Colorado for Two Non-Conference Matches

 The Fort Hays State women's soccer team hits the road this week for two matches in Colorado. The Tigers will travel to Lakewood on Friday (Sept. 10) to take on Colorado Christian at 1 p.m. (noon MT) before facing off with CSU-Pueblo in Pueblo on Sunday (Sept. 12) with kickoff scheduled for 2 p.m. (1 p.m. MT).

FHSU goes into this week coming off of a pair of shutout victories at home against Augustana and Sioux Falls. The Tigers posted five total goals in these contests with five different goal scorers, including Zariah SmithCarly WalkerAlex HuttonJordan Thompson and Amanda Rapaduski. Goalkeeper Deonna Wellbrock has compiled eight saves in two matches and has recorded two wins. The Tigers are outshooting their opponents 38-10 so far this season and have put 20 of those shots on target.

Wellbrock was named MIAA co-Goalkeeper of the Week for her performance last weekend, while Reilly Madden earned Defender of the Week honors thanks to a pair of assists. The Tigers are now receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches DII national poll after their strong start to the year.

Colorado Christian has compiled a 1-1 record after picking up a 1-0 victory at Eastern New Mexico last week. The Cougars have posted 12 saves so far this season. CSU-Pueblo comes into the week 0-2, being shutout in both matches. They will host Emporia State on Friday for their home opener before the Tigers come to town.

FHSU is 0-1 against Colorado Christian all-time, with the last matchup in 2011 ending in a 2-1 CCU victory. This will be the second meeting for these schools in Lakewood. The Tigers and ThunderWolves have met five times before with series record is knotted up at 2-2-1. The Tigers came away with a 1-0 home win in the most recent matchup in 2019, while the Tigers are 1-2-1 in Pueblo.
