Precip falls in Hays for first time in more than month; nearly 2" behind normal

It wasn't much, but it was measureable, and it counts.

A light rainstorm moved through Hays Friday night, leaving lawns and streets glistening with the much welcome moisture.

According to official reports from the K-State Agricultural Research Center south of town, Hays received 0.02 inches of rain.

The last time precipitation fell in Hays was more than a month ago, said Joe Becker, weather monitor.

A light snow fell February 2nd, yielding 0.30 inches of precipitation.

It's been a dry year so far in Hays, nearly two inches less than usual accumlation by March 4.

To date, just 0.56 inches has been measured. Hays' 153-year average total through March is 2.46 inches. 

The three-day forecast from the National Weather Service calls for a chance of preciptation Sunday - rain and snow - as a weather front moves through bringing cooler temperatures.
