Donovan Lee Sherrill, age 56, of WaKeeney, Kansas, died Monday, August 24, 2026, at HaysMed – Hays.
He was born in Modesto, California, on October 8, 1969, to William Lee and Kathleen Susan (Jones) Sherrill. Donovan was raised and attended schools in Central California until his family relocated to Kansas in 2002.
Known as a hard worker, Donovan worked in the oil field as a derrickhand for Discovery Drilling and truly enjoyed the friendships and bonds he created with his fellow brothers in the patch. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need and will be remembered as a kind person, even though he ran a little “HOT” and had a bad temper—which we can blame on his red hair.
Surviving family members include his mother and stepfather, Kathy (Kenny) Bridgford of Ellis; stepmother, Brenda Cohea of California; siblings, Aleesha Sherrill, William Sherrill, Janis Lynn Kelley, Melanie (Oscar) Fuentes, and Sonya Penn, all of California, and Kimberley (Steven) Perry of Oregon.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Lee Sherrill, and his brother-in-law, Richard Penn.
