Mary Jane Brenzikofer

Mary Jane Brenzikofer, 77, Hays, died peacefully on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at her home from a long illness. She was born July 20, 1943 at her grandparent’s house northwest of Agra, Kansas to James and Mildred (Bailey) Daley. She was the oldest of two children. 

Mary Jane grew up in Agra and went to Agra School Class of 1961. She received a degree in Accounting from Brown Mackie School of Business in Salina, Kansas in 1962. After graduation, she worked at the Phillipsburg Coop as an accountant. She  married Terry Brenzikofer on April 1, 1967 in Agra.  Terry and Mary Jane moved to Hays in 1968 and started Hays Communication Service, Inc., a regional Motorola service center. They ran that business for 39 years and sold the business and retired in 2007.  Terry and Mary Jane celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on April 1, 2018. 

She enjoyed doing crafts and volunteered for the Hadley Medical Center Auxiliary making crafts for their annual fund-raising sale and sales in the gift shop. She also traveled around to local craft shows to sell her creations. She was an avid sports fan and loved the Kansas City Chiefs. She volunteered time to PTA, Apple Dumpling Gang, and Hadley Auxiliary throughout the years. She enjoyed attending family gatherings and her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and musical concerts. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her husband, Terry, Hays; her daughter Amber Brenzikofer, Lakewood, Colorado; her son Mark Brenzikofer and his wife Suzanne, McKinney, Texas; her daughter Nicole Kems and her husband Jason, Winterset, Iowa; her grandsons Trevor Kems, Corbin Kems, Brayden Brenzikofer, and Cade Brenzikofer; her sister Carol Weinman and her husband Larry, Phillipsburg; her sister-in-law Diane Smetana and her husband Jerry, Plainville; a niece, Kim Smetana of Bailey, Colorado; a nephew, Scott Smetana and his wife Penny of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and a nephew, Alex Smetana of Glenwood Springs, Colorado. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Mildred Daley of Agra. 

Cremation was planned. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 10:30am at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating. The memorial service will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook Page.  Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Mary Jane Brenzikofer Memorial Fund care of the Oliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, P.O. Box 563, Phillipsburg, KS 67661 for distribution to causes dear to her heart including PSP.org.
