⚾ A's score two runs late to rally past Larks

DODGE CITY – The Dodge City A’s scored a run in the seventh and another in the eighth as they rallied for a 3-2 win over the Hays Larks in a non-league game Thursday night at Cavalier Field.

The game was tied 1-1 through six innings. The Larks (4-2) took a brief lead in the top of the seventh when Damian Ruiz scored on a safety squeeze. Dodge City (2-3) tied it back up in the bottom of the inning when they scored on a two-out error on a ground ball to second base. The A’s took the lead for good on a Dawson Stutz one-out single.

The Larks struck first in the fourth inning on a Garrett Gruell triple which scored Will Pendergrass. The A’s tied the game an inning later on a Cooper Schneider double.

Jose Velazquez (0-1) took the loss in relief allowing the run in the eighth.

Starting pitcher Caden Hare allowed one earned run on six hits over 4 1/3 innings with three strikeouts and two walks. Carson Jacobs allowed one earned run on one hit over 2 2/3 innings of relief with four strikeouts and two walks.

Four Dodge City pitchers combined to hold the Larks to four hits.

Trent Baker stayed hot with two more hits. The Larks leadoff hitter out of Houston Christian has eight hits in the last three games.

UP NEXT

The Larks open Rocky Mountain Baseball League play Friday with the first of a three-game series with the Denver Cougars. Saturday night is Military Appreciation Night. All active, reserve and retired military personnel are invited to attend and be honored before the game.
