Dale Ward Bateman

Dale Ward Bateman, age 84, of Guthrie, Oklahoma passed away Saturday, March 19, 2022, at Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin, Kansas. 

Dale was born April 16, 1937, to Charles  and Orva (Elliott) Bateman in Edson, Kansas.  He grew up in Edson and attended the Edson Consolidated School and graduated with the class of 1956.   He married Gloria Snyder on May 18, 1963, in Colby, to this union Denis and Pamela.  Later he married Nelda Wheeler on September 28, 1986, in Hinton, Oklahoma. 

Dale began working in tire shops in Colby, he also farmed and drove a truck.  When he moved to Oklahoma he worked at a tire shop in Hinton, Oklahoma where he met his wife Nelda.  

For many years he drove for US Express in Bowie, Texas, he was proud of his accomplishment that he had driven in 49 states of the United States, except Hawaii. Dale attended the Cowboy Church in Bowie, Texas, he loved the guitar music and hymns.  After his retirement he was a park host while living in Bowie and lived on the lake, which was perfect for his love of fishing and visiting with the many campers.  Recently due to health issues he has been living with his sister Retta in Norcatur. 

Dale is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Orva; brothers, James and John; and sister, Ruby Phifer. 

He is survived by his wife, Nelda of Guthrie, OK; son, Denis of Pocatello, ID; daughter, Pamela Harmon of Post Falls, ID; step-son, Paul Ferguson of Guthrie, OK; sister, Retta Hare of Norcatur, KS; 4 grandchildren and 6 greatgrandchildren and many more family members and friends.
