NORTON – The Hoxie Indians had five individual champions and qualified nine wrestlers for the state championship next week in Salina as the claimed to team title at the 3-2-1A regional wrestling tournament held Friday and Saturday in Norton.
Phillipsburg qualified the second most with eight wrestlers and finished third as a team. Norton was second and will send seven to state next week.
TMP’s Eli Stein earned a fourth-place finish at 165 pounds and was the lone qualifier for the Monarchs.
Ellis’ Mason Younger is now a four-time state qualifier after he won the 144 pound weight class this week. He won the state championship at 126 pounds last season and was second as sophomore at 120 pounds.
Trego had two individuals qualify for the state tournament next week.
Ashton Wynn finished second at 120 pounds and Kaiden Bliss was fourth at 190.
Plainville's Jesse Wilkerson (175 pounds) and Mason Hogan (285) both finished third.
Tate Blackwill of Quinter also earned a regional championship at 106 pounds.
The Hill City Ringnecks also qualified four for next week’s state championship tournament, led by Aiden Amrein who finished first at 175 pounds.
Dayton Stephen was second (157), Alexande Hamel finished third (113) and Slade Rohr (138) was fourth.

The boys 4A and 3-1A state wrestling tournament will be held in conjunction with the girls 4-1A state tournament at Tony’s Pizza Events Center in Salina Feb. 22-24.
