HAYS – Carson Liles had three hits and drove in four runs to help the Hays Larks stay unbeaten with a 7-3 win over the BTL Hornets Wednesday night at Larks Park.
The Larks (14-0) rallied from an early 2-0 deficit with a run in the fifth on a Liles RBI single. His base hit in the seventh scored two to tie the game 3-3. Liles added another RBI single in a four run-eighth.
Three local kids were big at the bottom of the lineup. Former Hays Hays High and current Fort Hays State catcher Dylan Haselhorst, Liles and TMP-Marian senior-to-be Ty Schmeidler combined for five of the team’s nine hits and drove in six of their seven runs.
Justin Pienado (1-0) struck out three in 1 1/3 innings of relief and picked up the win.
Hank Brown made the start for Hays and gave up one earned run on no hits but walked four with two strikeouts. Charlie Pearce followed with two hitless innings. Sammy Frederick allowed one run on two hits with three strikeouts and four walks over 2 2/3 innings before Peinaldo entered. Jaxon Ramos struck out the side but also issued two walks to close the game out in the ninth.
UP NEXT
Thursday is an off day. The Larks are back at home Friday with a Rocky Mountain Baseball League game against Dodge City.
