The Wonder Women League, in cooperation with the Fort Hays State University Criminal Justice Department, is sponsoring a women's self-defense class.

Globally, an estimated 736 million women — almost one in three — have been subjected to intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both at least once in their life (30 percent of women aged 15 and older), according to the United Nations.

The training is open to any female 14 and older. The training will be 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 15 at Cunningham Hall, Room 110.

Registration is required. Cost is $10, which is non-refundable. Click here to register online. Spots are limited, and registration is filling fast.

Proceeds from the training will be donated to Jana's Campaign. The organization's mission is to provide quality educational programming that prevents gender and relationship violence.

Kenton Russell will lead the training. He led a similar training in 2018, which was also sponsored by the Wonder Women League.

The training will focus on situational awareness, verbal de-escalation and grappling.
