Kan. sex offender hospitalized after crash during high-speed chase

NORTON COUNTY—A registered Kansas sex offender was injured in an accident during a pursuit by law enforcement just before 8a.m. Wednesday in Norton County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a  2004 Toyota Camry driven by Jeremiah D. Johnson, 37, New Almelo, was northbound on Norton County Road E3 five miles southeast of the city of Norton.

Johnson lost control of the vehicle at a high rate of speed. The car traveled the east ditch, struck a stop sign, became airborne over Norton County Road Q, continued into a pasture, rolled and came to rest on its top facing south.

EMS transported Johnson to the Norton County Hospital. He was later transferred to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.

Johnson has previous convictions for attempted Contraband; Non firearm, etc by non employee, Lewd and Lascivious Behavior Sexual Relations less than 16 and Aggravated violation of the Kansas offender registration act. He has been a registered sex offender since 2005, according to the Kansas Dept. of Corrections.

The KHP did not report what prompted the chase on Wednesday morning.
