Russell Fire Department
At 12:47 p.m., April 30, the City of Russell Fire Department was dispatched to 930 Wisconsin for a report of a fire in the basement of a single-family dwelling.
Crews arriving on scene observed a single-family dwelling with heavy smoke coming from the east doorway, basement access side, along with smoke coming out from the attic vents.
Crews were able to make entry through the east door and gain access to the basement. Heavy smoke and flames were reported, and the fire was extinguished.
The fire was brought under control at 1:24 p.m., and crews remained on scene looking for extensions and extinguishing hot sport within the dwelling. The severity of the heat and fire damage was contained to the basement, while smoke damage was present throughout the entire dwelling.
After investigation, the cause of the fire was a malfunctioning water heater located in the basement.
