HUTCHINSON — Gas prices for the holiday weekend will be higher than they have been in a long time for the 4th of July.
"Here in Kansas, we're looking at $2.87 on average," said Shawn Steward with AAA Kansas. "That's up about four cents in the past week, but still, as we usually are, we're 10th cheapest in the nation."
Don't plan on any relief in the near future, either.
"The expectation is that gas prices are going to stay high and maybe see some additional increases throughout the summer, because of the demand out there," Steward said. "The expectation is that crude oil prices will stay high."
The last time the national average was over $3 a gallon for Independence Day was in 2014.
