👟 Hoxie boys, Phillipsburg girls win the MCL meet

PHILLIPSBURG – The Hoxie boys and Phillipsburg girls won the Mid-Continent League track and field meet Friday.

The Indians won five events and scored 158 points, 42 more than second place Norton who won six events. Smith Center finished in third place with 58.5 points. The Panther girls won six events and scored 114 points, 12 more than second place Norton. Ellis finished third with 75.

Hoxie’s Drew Bretz won four gold medals. He won the 400 (51.10) and 800 (2:07.89) and was on the first place 4x400 relay team 3:29.58) along with Ryan Shaw, Jonathan Mader and Kane Epp. Bretz was also on the first place 4x800 relay team (8:49.23) along with Connor Diercks, Duncan Bell and Levi Gleason. Hoxie’s other first place finish was from Aaron Keith in the 3200 meters (10:50.33).

Norton’s Dean Clark also won four gold medals. He won the 100 (11.28) and 200 (23.19) meters along with the triple jump (45-07.50) and he was on the winning 4x100 relay (44.14) along with Silas Jones, Tyler Backman and Tyce Melvin. Lucas Kenney won the shot put (49-07.50), Logan Willour the discus (147-00) and Wyatt Hammond the javelin (189-00).

Russell had two first place finishers. Trey Zorn won the 1600 meters (4:57.26) and Jace Peerman the high jump (6-09.0).

Smith Center’s Garrett Wanner won both the 110 (15:57) and 300 hurdles (42.12).

Mason Younger of Ellis won the pole vault (12-03.00) and Plainville’s Carter Cellmer won the long jump (20-09.00).

The Phillipsburg girls were led by Heather Schemper who won the 200 meters (26.42), 400 meters (57.52), the long jump (18-01.0) and she was also on the winning 4x100 meter relay team along with Kayla Jacobs, Trinitti Gross and Taryn Sides. Caydence Corman won the pole vault (9-03.0), Austin Dierking won the shot put (39-06.75) and Kaelyn Means the discus (130-02).

Norton won four events. Mackenzie Clydesdale finished first in the 800 (2:25.87), Jaelyn Rumback won the 300 hurdles (48:04). Both were a part of the first place 4x800 relay along with Savana Rumback and Payton Bailey. Jenessa Ruder javelin (137-08).

Avery Boydston of Ellis won the 1600 (5:45.32) and 3200 meters (12:02.86).

TMP-Marian’s Shalee Gottschalk won the 100 hurdles (15.98) and finished second in the 300 hurdles (50.36).

Plainville won three events. Jada Rathbun the 100 meters (13.40), Gracie Kerns won the triple jump (35-05.5 ) and the 4x100 relay team of Emily Bainter, Sofie Gourley, Grayce Schieferecke and Madison Maier. (51.74) also finished in first place.

Oakley’s Bella Hudson won the high jump (5-02.0).
