Hester Kennis

Phillipsburg resident Hester Kennis passed away Saturday, October 30th, 2021, at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg at the age of 99 years.

She was born February 28, 1922, in Tasco, KS the daughter of James I. and Ethel G. (Dooley) Sinclair.

Hester was united in marriage to John Kennis on April 21, 1940, in Phillipsburg, KS.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church.  She worked in the Kitchen at the Phillipsburg Elementary School, Golden Years Center, and Phillips County Long Term Care.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and her husband John.

Survivors include her daughter Julie Kennis of Phillipsburg; sons James and wife Donna of Universal City, TX, John “J.D.” of Ft. Collins, CO, and Jesse and wife Judy of Pflugerville, TX; 16 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and 16 great great grandchildren.

She will truly be missed by everyone.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 5th, 2021 at the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Blake Stanwood officiating.  The services will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page.

Mrs. Kennis will lie in state from noon until 9 p.m. Wednesday and again from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Phillipsburg Senior Center.
