MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Fort Hays State track and field teams delivered impressive performances during the first two days of competition at the MIAA Indoor Championships, highlighted by two record-breaking achievements. Nolan Churchman shattered the school record in the long jump, earning All-MIAA honors with a second-place finish while Reba Mader set a new school record in the 400 meters, advancing to the finals with a provisional mark of 55.94.
The men's team saw additional success in the sprints, with Eddie McVay placing tenth in the 60-meter prelims at 6.84, while Kenny Fritsch finished 12th in 6.85. In the 200-meter prelims, Hayden Albright secured a spot in the finals with an eighth-place finish in 21.56, an NCAA Division II provisional mark. Nakari Morrical-Palmer placed twelfth in 21.94, and Toby Wahlmeier finished sixteenth in 22.20. Albright also qualified for the 400-meter final, finishing eighth in 48.19, another provisional mark. Avrey Albright placed tenth in 48.35, also earning a provisional mark. Eden Bathurst secured a spot in the women's 800-meter final, finishing seventh in 2:22.32.
In distance events, Jaret Pfizenmaier placed sixth in the men's 5,000-meter final with a time of 14:32.20, contributing valuable points to the team. Emily Diercks delivered an impressive performance in the women's 5,000-meter final, earning All-MIAA honors with a second-place finish in 17:05.62.
The field events continued to showcase strong performances, with Annabeth Baalmann earning All-MIAA honors in the pole vault, finishing second with a clearance of 13-8.50, also a provisional mark. Lanie Page tied for sixth in the high jump at 5-4.50, while Kylin Rudzik placed eleventh in the pentathlon with 2,456 points. Drew Tolar also delivered an impressive performance in the heptathlon, finishing sixth overall with 4,834 points. His standout achievements included a first-place finish in the 60-meter dash at 6.92 seconds, second in the shot put with a mark of 40-1.25, and sixth in the long jump at 21-2.75.
With two school records falling and multiple athletes advancing to finals, Fort Hays State looks to close the MIAA Championships on a high note Sunday (March 2).
