🏈TMP routs Mustangs for fifth straight win

SOUTHWESTERN HEIGHTS – The TMP-Marian Monarchs ran their win streak to five straight games Friday no in a 48-6 rout of the Southwestern Heights Mustangs.

The Monarchs offense wasted no time getting in a groove scoring 20 first quarter points in just nine offensive plays.

The game started with a Southwestern Heights three-and-out and TMP would put together a five-play drive that spanned 40 yards and was capped off by a five-yard Kade Harris touchdown run to put TMP up 7-0. It was first of two Harris rushing touchdowns on the night.

After the TMP touchdown the Mustangs gave the ball right back to TMP two plays later on a fumble at their own 21-yard line. TMP scored three plays later when Harris found Wentling for a 16-yard touchdown put TMP up 14-0.

After a Mustangs punt TMP’s Lance Lang scored on the very next play on a 25-yard rushing touchdown giving TMP a 20-0 lead with just over four minutes to play in the first quarter.

Midway through the second quarter Harris found Wentling for a second time, this time from 39 yards out putting TMP up 27-0.

Southwestern Heights was able to get on the board with a 20-yard touchdown late in the second quarter and nearly added a second score but TMP was able to stop the drive as the first half came to an end with TMP leading 27-6 at halftime.

The Monarchs opened the second half with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Harris to Lance Lang on a jet sweep that put TMP on top 34-6.

Harris added his second rushing touchdown of the game from four yards out with just over two minutes left in the third quarter giving TMP a 41-6 lead.

The Monarchs final score came in the fourth quarter when Lang broke free for a 34-yard touchdown run putting TMP up 48-6.

Game highlights

Lang finished with a game-high 83 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Harris completed 7-of-10 passes for 104 yards and three touchdowns and Jace Wentling recorded four receptions for 71 yards and two scored.

TMP improved to 5-1 with the win and 3-0 in district play. The five straight wins is the most since 2002.

The Monarchs will take on Cimarron Friday night at Lewis Field. Cimarron also improved to 3-0 in district play with a win over Lakin Friday.
